The Junior Olympic program was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid
foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace, competing in more than one level in
a year, if she so chooses.
The IA Girls' Junior Olympic Program consists of Levels 1-10: Level 1 or "Intermediate Team" is a non-competitive level designed to build a gymnast's strength and skills. Levels 2-5 are "compulsory" levels meaning all gymnasts compete the same routines in each level. Levels 6-10 are considered "optional" meaning these levels are required to incorporate their required elements throughout
their routines while still highlighting their strengths. An athlete must qualify through the compulsory program prior to entering into the optional levels.
